Made with the newest product to come out of the North Ronaldsay Woollen Mill- rug yarn: a core of hair yarn with hair/ kemp twisted around it to produce a reinforced roving suitable for peg looms, or in this case ridged heddle loom in a plain weave style.
Using different coloured hair to bind around the core to make a graduation rug yarn of natural colours, when woven the colours come and go and melt into each other along the length of the rug.
Heavy duty cotton warp used to allow the rug yarn to be densely packed down- making this a heavy and hard wearing rug.
Some hair sheeding will occur at first but over time this will subside.
Advise cleaning on a delicate or wool machine wash. Drip Dry, do not tumble dry.
Despite the hard wearing nature of hair yarn and the water resilience of wool these rugs are not designed to be used in heavy traffic areas or to put up with heavy soiling. They are forgiving underfoot making them great to stand on and prevent foot fatigue.
